Privacy Policy

This policy explains how PokeSort at pokesort.org uses information when you play, browse, or contact us.

Your choices

You can play without an account or optional cookies. Google Analytics loads when you visit, with analytics cookies disabled unless you accept them. Rejecting cookies keeps basic cookieless analytics running and does not limit the puzzles. You can change your cookie choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.

Game data on your device

Daily progress, Infinite puzzle number, solved groups, mistakes, streak dates, and any names or notes entered in the Pokelike Pokésort worksheet (under pokesort-pokelike-worksheet) are stored in your browser's local storage. The separate 6-Pokémon Chain stores its card order, guesses, result, and practice puzzle number under pokesort-chain-v2 keys. Earlier pokesort-chain-v1 records and hint usage may be retained when migrating progress.

These saved records stay on your device until you clear them or your browser removes them. Clearing site storage removes saved progress and privacy choices. Sharing copies or sends a spoiler-free result only when you use a share control; the app you choose then handles that shared information.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand visits and how the puzzles are used. It loads by default with analytics storage denied. In this mode, Google receives cookieless measurements, which can include page paths, timestamps, device and browser information, network information, and consent status. Accepting analytics cookies additionally allows identifiers that distinguish browsers and sessions. Cookieless measurement still sends information to Google. We configure the page location and referring page without query strings or fragments, and disable Google Signals and advertising personalization signals in this site's analytics tag.

Game events can include game mode, load and elapsed time, error stage, mistake count, number of groups solved, number of matching cards in a guess, hint level, result, Infinite round number, and share method. We do not send the full saved board, Pokémon names or IDs, selected cards, group names, streak history, worksheet contents, free-text input, or the contents of local storage as analytics event parameters.

On the Pokelike Today page, optional events describe the page state (published, preview, or unavailable), numbered hint level, whether the answer reveal was opened, clicks on the official game or an optional labelled community link, and a fixed reason for unavailability. They do not include the answer, card order, relationships, or worksheet values.

Rejecting or withdrawing cookie permission prevents Google Analytics from reading or writing analytics cookies and removes accessible first-party Google Analytics cookies. Basic cookieless measurement continues. Changing your cookie choice does not automatically delete information already received by Google. See Google's explanation of Consent Mode. Cookies and similar storage

You can remove cookies and local storage in your browser. Removing only cookies may leave your saved cookie choice in local storage, so use Cookie settings to withdraw cookie consent. Browser storage restrictions are respected; if a choice cannot be saved, it lasts only for the current page.

Hosting and third-party images

Cloudflare hosts and protects the site. Requests may involve IP addresses, browser information, requested URLs, and security or reliability logs. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Pokémon sprites load directly from the PokeAPI sprite repository on GitHub's raw.githubusercontent.com host. GitHub may receive your IP address, browser details, referring page, and requested image path when your browser loads a sprite. See GitHub's privacy statement.

Advertising and Google AdSense

PokeSort is preparing to use Google AdSense. Google advertising code is not currently enabled on this site. The following explains the data practices that apply if Google ads are enabled; your analytics-cookie choice does not grant permission for advertising.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites. Google's advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to show ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. Ad providers may also use web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention.

You can manage or opt out of Google's personalized advertising in My Ad Center. You can also learn about participating third-party vendors and their opt-out choices at AboutAds. These controls do not necessarily remove all ads or all cookies.

Before advertising is enabled, we will provide the required advertising privacy choices, identify the providers used, and update this policy to reflect the actual setup. Where Google's regional requirements apply, advertising consent will be handled through a Google-certified consent management platform, with a way to revisit or withdraw choices.

Contact messages, retention, and privacy requests

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you include, and use it to reply and handle your request. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information or other people's private details. We retain correspondence only as needed to resolve requests, maintain necessary records, or meet applicable obligations.

Local game storage and analytics cookie lifetimes are described above. Hosting logs and analytics records are separate from browser cookies; their retention depends on the service and its configured settings. Service providers may process information in countries other than yours, as described in their linked privacy notices.

Depending on where you live and the applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of your personal information, object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data protection authority. Send requests and questions about retention to contact@pokesort.org. We may need information to understand and verify a request, and cannot retrieve game records stored only in your browser.

Children and policy updates

No account, real name, or date of birth is needed to play. Children should not send personal information through the contact email. A parent or guardian with a concern about information a child has provided can contact us using the address above.

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. A material change to optional data use will require a new choice before that use begins.
